Would you like to deliver Animal-Assisted Interventions (AAI) professionally or as a volunteer with your own dog? We guide you and your dog towards a safe, high-quality and welfare-focused partnership as an active therapy animal team.
What is an active therapy animal?
An active therapy animal works alongside a professionally trained Therapy Animal Practitioner to support other people. The team may work in healthcare, social care, education, coaching, libraries, residential care, hospitals and other professional settings.
For whom?
- professionals who want to integrate AAI into their practice;
- volunteers who want to carry out quality visits or activities with their dog;
- handler-dog teams that want to prepare in a targeted manner for screening and certification;
- organizations that want to prepare their own therapy animal team.
The journey
We start with the dog's suitability, behavior, and welfare, and also look at your goals, experience, and future working context. Afterward, we step-by-step build cooperation, communication, basic skills, coping with stimuli, professional conduct, and boundary setting.
- intake and feasibility assessment;
- behavioral and welfare evaluation;
- customized training for dog, handler, and work context;
- practical preparation for AAI;
- advice on the Therapy Animal Practitioner® professional programme;
- preparation for an independent screening and certification.
Well-being and quality come first
Not every dog is suitable for active work. We always respect the signals, preferences, and boundaries of the animal. Training and certification are separate steps and together provide clarity on the handler's competencies and the suitability of the human-animal team.
