A buddy dog provides support, companionship, structure, confidence, and joy.
Research shows that children with a disability gain more self-confidence and feel better thanks to a buddy dog. Children get used to caring for and interacting with a dog through play.
A buddy dog or an autism guide dog is trained to guide children with autism outdoors, by connecting the child to the autism guide dog with a harness. This will also change the child's behavior.
- Safety: the child can no longer just run away
- Freedom of movement: the whole family can go out without a struggle
- Positive influence: the child's behavior often changes
- Friendship: the child always has a companion nearby
Even the family dog can learn things to interrupt the behavior of a child with autism.
