FAQ

February 27, 2024 by Admin

What is a therapy animal, and are all therapy animals the same?

A therapy animal, along with its handler, works both within a therapeutic practice and at home. The animal can be custom-trained to provide companionship, social contact, structure, and the alleviation of loneliness in the daily lives of both adults and children.

A more detailed explanation, including the difference between an active and a passive therapy animal, can be found on this page of our website.

Can I become a therapy animal handler myself?

Yes that is possible, but it is best to follow an extensive and recognized training course for that. This is organized by Therapiedier VZW in collaboration with our partner Toscanzahoeve. Everything you need to know about that can be found on their website. We are happy to add that a new training cycle starts this coming Saturday for anyone who wants to work with dogs with the basic course in ethology.

Also for those who want to train therapy animals (for yourself or someone else), these training courses are a must.

Is my animal suitable as a therapy animal?

You sometimes hear that every dog or cat is a therapy animal, but that most just freelance. That is certainly true to some extent, but to deploy them truly as a trained therapy animal, things are different. Your animal must possess a number of characteristics to be able to handle certain tasks. You can read more on our website about how we can approach this and how we can help you with it. You can also always email us with your questions.

I am looking for a therapy animal for myself or my family. Can you help?

Absolutely. If you don't have a (suitable) therapy animal yet, we will help you search for and select one. We take your specific needs and situation into account and look for the ideal match. Here too, we recommend consult our website.

Is a therapy animal right for our company or organization? And how do we approach this?

There is a fairly good chance that therapy animals could also be an added value for your organization or company. Be sure to contact us with your specific questions. We already collaborate with schools, youth movements, businesses, residential care centers, and hospitals, among others. However, we are open to discussing any situation.

I am having a hard time, struggling with myself, or have a diagnosis like ADHD, ADD... Can you do anything for me?

Absolutely. Therapiedier VZW organizes daytime activities and time-out programs using therapy animals and professional guides. We also have a page on our website for this with comprehensive information.

I would like to support your non-profit organization. How can I do this?

Thank you! We have quite a few possibilities for that. You can make one-time donations, or register as a supporting member. But you can also, for example, do all your online shopping via our link at Troopers. We will then get a percentage, without you paying any extra. And this works with many well-known online stores.
